The vast majority of plastic packaging in the world is used once and then thrown away, usually into landfill. The rubbish often ends up in our oceans. Single use plastic products can break down easily into microplastics, contaminating soil, waterways and even our bodies.

We believe that single use plastic packaging can be a thing of the past, with the advent of self-service bulk stores, zero-waste pantries and plastic-free product packaging.

Twist and Sprout provides food, cleaning products, kitchen wares, and personal care items. All products are vegan and cruelty-free, and as much as practical, products and their packaging are plastic-free, sustainable, fair trade, and/or Australian made.

HOW

IT

WORKS

A very quick

guide to

zero-waste

shopping at

Twist and Sprout

We encourage you to bring your own containers to the shop. Most pantry and liquid products are sold by weight. We weigh your container before it is filled, to ensure you only pay for the contents of the container.

Your container should be clean and dry. It can be OK to refill a dry good with a small amount of the same product in the bottom of your container, although you should check for spoilage, and clean out the container properly every few refills. The lid should be able to securely close the container for your trip home. You can bring jars (although remember they can get heavy!), bread bags, zip lock bags, recycled boxes, cloth bags, old shampoo or cleaning bottles.

If you've forgotten to bring any containers, there are a few options:

  • Buy one of our produce bags or bulk food bags

  • Use one of our free second-hand jars

  • We can also serve your food in our paper bags. We encourage you to reuse and then recycle or compost the bag at the end of its life

There are no minimum quantities, so whether you need a small amount for a recipe or if you're trying something new, zero-waste shopping can be a great option for you.
